Earthjustice Supports Congress's Decision to Impeach the President for High Crimes

Trump is a threat to national security, democracy and the Constitution.

WASHINGTON

Earthjustice President Abigail Dillen released a statement on the articles of impeachment advanced by the House of Representatives.

"Earthjustice supports the action taken by the House of Representatives today to impeach the president of the United States. In a resolution Monday, members of Congress listed the myriad ways in which Donald Trump has violated his oath of office in inciting a dangerous insurrection. After months of attempting to overturn the results of a free and fair democratic election, Trump incited a mob of his supporters to storm the Capitol, where they injured and killed law enforcement officers, terrorized congressional representatives and their staff, threatened the vice president, disrupted the peaceful transfer of power, and vandalized the seat of our democracy. He must be removed from office.

The resolution was clear about the extremely high stakes for our democracy and our national security. It is critical that President Trump be held fully accountable for his actions. Over the last four years, we have learned hard lessons about the fragility of our democracy. Our future as a country depends on decisive action and unflagging vigilance to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law."
