By Pulling Out of Paris Climate Pact, Trump Ignores 'Moral Responsibility'

WASHINGTON

By pulling the U.S. out of the Paris climate agreement, President Trump will abdicate his responsibility as leader of the most powerful country in the world, to help fight the looming catastrophe of climate change, said EWG President Ken Cook.

Multiple press reports cite White House officials who say the president will withdraw the U.S. from the landmark climate agreement in the coming days.

"President Trump's foolish decision means America is joining Syria and Nicaragua as the only three nations in the world not part of the race to head off one of the most dangerous threats the planet has faced," said Cook. "Pulling the nation out of this pact would only further cement in the minds of Americans and others around the globe that the president has no sense of moral responsibility to protect future generations from the ravages of climate change."

"Even such forward-thinking leaders as Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un signed the agreement, acknowledging the serious challenges facing the world as climate change accelerates," Cook added. "Trump's planned action is one of the most stunningly wrong-headed, uninformed decisions ever made by a president of the United States."
