Senate Democrats Betray People & the Planet

On Tuesday, the Senate, including 13 Democrats, narrowly voted to close debate on Trade Promotion Authority clearing the way for its passage. George Goehl, executive director of National People's Action Campaign, issued the following statement:

"Today, Senate Democrats -- joining too many of their Democratic colleagues in the House -- betrayed people and the planet by voting for Trade Promotion Authority. This, together with the virtual silence of the leading Democratic candidate for president, shows the stranglehold corporations have over both political parties. Coming out of this vote, we double our resolve to build an independent political movement to replace Wall Street Democrats with politicians who put everyday people before corporate profits."

People's Action builds the power of poor and working people, in rural, suburban, and urban areas to win change through issue campaigns and elections.
