Statement on 2018 Midterm Elections: A People's Wave

A statement from George Goehl, director of People’s Action
WASHINGTON -

A statement from George Goehl, director of People’s Action on the 2018 midterm election:

“This was a people’s wave. From the moment Donald Trump was elected, a people’s movement took root. Millions of people new to social movements joined the fray, showing up at town halls, joining community organizations, and organizing their neighbors to resist the Trump agenda.

"All of it built to a midterm election that was a rebuke to Trump’s racist and divisive ways and a yes to big ideas on health care, wages, racial justice and protecting the environment.

"Without question, women are the leading edge of the resistance –  and they were the leading edge of the people’s wave on Election Day. Up and down the ballot candidates who stood up for people over corporations won.

"Now we must work together, to hold this administration accountable, to continue pushing an agenda that lifts up poor and working class people. When we do that, the people win and ultimately, that’s what matters.”
