Patriotic Millionaire Shows His Taxes

Millionaire slams GOP tax bill by releasing his tax returns, and demands Trump do the same.

WASHINGTON

Today, in a viral video released by NowThis, Patriotic Millionaire Eric Schoenberg released his personal tax returns, showing how much wealthy people like him stand to benefit from the GOP tax bill. In it, he explains that despite claims from the GOP that the bill will eliminate deductions, that the reduction of pass-through income will give him, and thousands of other wealthy Americans, a massive tax cut. By his calculations, the GOP tax bill would give him personally a tax cut of over 30%, while it would actually raise taxes on millions of poor and middle class families.

In the video, he explains how our tax code is unfairly skewed in favor of investment income over labor, and uses his own personal finances to back up his claim that "the Republican plan will make the rich richer, and leave everyone else to pick up the bill." He calls out President Trump for falsely claiming that this tax bill will "cost [him] a fortune," saying that if Trump wants to prove him wrong, all he has to do is follow Eric's lead and release his tax returns.

The Patriotic Millionaires is a group of high-net worth Americans who share a profound concern about the destabilizing level of inequality in America. Our work centers on the two things that matter most in a capitalist democracy: power and money. Our goal is to ensure that the country's political economy is structured to meet the needs of regular Americans, rather than just millionaires. We focus on three "first" principles: a highly progressive tax system, a livable minimum wage, and equal political representation for all citizens.
