Stop the War Statement on the Bombing in Afghanistan
The news that the US has dropped its largest non-nuclear bomb on caves in Afghanistan near the Pakistan border should terrify everyone. Called the mother of all bombs, it is Donald Trump's latest military foray - this time against Isis but last week it was against Syria and in January against Yemen. According to one expert, the blast with the radius of one mile will feel like a nuclear explosion to anyone in the area. Trump's supposed isolationism has been shown to be a sham as he lashes out in every direction without regard for the consequences. The existence of IS in Afghanistan has emerged since the US-led invasion there in 2001. Despite promises, US and other troops remain there. This was the first theatre of the war on terror, a war which has led to the growth of terrorism worldwide, not its eradication. Its failure has led to ever greater conflict and wars and to more deadly weaponry. Trump must be opposed in his relentless drive to war. The role of the British government in supporting him is disgraceful.
