Our Revolution Denounces Decision To End DACA

WASHINGTON - Our Revolution denounced the Trump Administration over the termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program. DACA was created by President Obama to provide work permits and protection from deportation for over 800,000 undocumented young adults who immigrated to the United States as children

"Undocumented people in this country deserve a pathway to citizenship. Today, those of us benefitting from the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) are in danger of losing our ability to provide for ourselves and our families due to Trump's reckless and inhumane decision to play politics with the lives of almost 1 million of us with DACA.” said Board Member and DACA recipient Catalina Velasquez. “By ending DACA, many young people are now forced into living in fear, at risk of senseless detention and deportation. We must defend DACA, pressure Congress to immediately pass the DREAM ACT introduced in the Senate by Democratic Senator Dick Durbin and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, as well as pass comprehensive immigration reform for the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in this country."

“It is cruel and heartless that this administration has caused fear and anxiety to nearly 800,000 DACA recipients who trusted the government to protect them,” added President Nina Turner. “This is their home. Our country must continue to be a safe haven for those looking for opportunity and safety. Congress must act quickly to create a permanent path to citizenship for DACA recipients and the millions of immigrants who are living in the shadows.”

In the coming days Our Revolution will join with dozens of national organizations to participate in actions across the country demanding that Congress act to protect DACA recipients and all of the 11 million immigrants currently living under fear of deportation.
