With Needed Defense Cuts on the Horizon, Industry Forces Rev Up the Propaganda Machine
You know it's a big moment for defenders of the United States' bloated military budget when some of the all-time superstars of the Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex descend on Capitol Hill to fight for their perceived right to profit.

193,000 Jobs: The True Cost of the Wasted $60 Billion in Iraq and Afghanistan
193,000 jobs. That's what we could have created, at minimum, for the money that war contractors wasted in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Associated Press reported on Wednesday that "as $60 billion in U.S. funds has been lost to waste and fraud in Iraq and Afghanistan over the past decade through lax oversight of contractors, poor planning and payoffs to warlords and insurgents, an independent panel investigating U.S. wartime spending estimates."

Secretary Clinton, Please Call Time on the Keystone Kochs
A battle is raging in the US over whether we use our resources to benefit the haves or to protect those who don't have as much as the most wealthy among us. We see this where tax cuts for the millionaires are required in order to continue giving unemployment benefits to the out-of-work. It took place around the attempt to reform Wall Street. We see it in cuts to education, and attempts to bust unions.

Bringing Home 150 Troops From Afghanistan Would Fix Wisconsin's Budget "Crisis"
Wisconsin’s Governor Scott Walker is using phony budget projections to manufacture a staged “fiscal emergency” in his state so that he can whack programs and political opponents, but even his fake “emergency” pales in comparison to the cost of the Afghanistan War to his state. In fact, the U.S. would only have to bring home 151 troops from Afghanistan to save more money than Walker’s ridiculous union-busting plan.

Blowing Billions on War While American Workers Go Under
When asked by USA Today's pollsters last week, sixty-eight percent of Americans said we worry that the cost of the Afghanistan War hurts our ability to fix problems here in the U.S. This week, we learned just how right we were about that. Friday's terrible jobs report shows that a crushing 9.8 percent of us are unemployed. And, millions of us are about to lose our lifeline because Congress refuses to extend unemployment insurance benefits.

Profit-Chasing Guns-for-Hire Are Killing Us in Iraq and Afghanistan
Drunken shootouts and debauchery, meaningless death and mayhem -- the "Wild West" atmosphere created by the Bush Administration's criminal initiation and execution of the Iraq War is the gift that keeps on giving. Thanks in part to the rapacious greed injected into war-fighting by the liberal use of for-profit armed "security" companies, a brutal, unaccountable and unreliable swagger is increasingly the face of the U.S. in conflict zones around the world.

Farrah Fawcett, the Burning Bed Fighter
Farrah and Ryan came to visit me about a month ago. Her spirit and passion and intelligence were as sharp as ever. The deep connection between Farrah and Ryan stronger then ever, with the teasing and humor in full throttle. But her body was being destroyed by the cancer. And it showed. Painfully. Farrah is an amazing fighter and she was in full fight mode. With Ryan right beside her. And I remember so well the months we spent together as we prepared for The Burning Bed.

A Movement to Make Obama Bring an End to War
In 2007, 82 Democratic members of Congress signed a pledge. They would never again vote to fund the war in Iraq without plans for troop withdrawal. Republican critics accused them of demagoguing the war. Of using our soldiers as a political pawns, of not meaning what they said. Those who signed that pledge need to cast their vote against the Supplemental Appropriations Act on Tuesday and prove them wrong.
