TODAY AT NOON: Pelosi, Franken Join MoveOn.org, Progressive Groups for Capitol Hill 'Stop Trumpcare' Rally to Save Health Care

The rally coincides with protests nationwide and builds on dozens of in-district mobile truck billboards and plane flyovers, as well as tens of thousands of constituent calls to Congressional offices.

WASHINGTON

Members of Congress, including Sen. Al Franken and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, will join constituents, progressive advocacy groups, and allied organizations on Capitol Hill at noon today to send a simple message to Congress: NO on Trumpcare.

House Republicans are poised to vote on the vicious Trumpcare plan this morning--which, if passed, would rip health coverage from tens of millions of people, gut Medicaid, shred protections for pre-existing conditions, and slam the door on Planned Parenthood--all to hand the wealthy a tax giveaway.

The rally is being hosted by (list is in formation): MoveOn.org, Planned Parenthood, Indivisible, Center for American Progress Action Fund, VoteVets, American Federation of Teachers, National Physicians Alliance, National Center for Lesbian Rights, The Tax March, National Advocacy Coordinator, Housing Works, Indivisible, National Women's Health Network, Raising Women's Voices for the Health Care We Need, Town Hall Project, SEIU, Social Security Works, Advocates for Youth, and the AFLCIO.

Nationwide, members of MoveOn.org, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and allied activists are also staging protests today outside 20 key House Republicans' in-district offices, urging them to oppose the American Health Care Act.

With Republicans moving quickly and discreetly to replace the Affordable Care Act this week, MoveOn has turned to extreme measures including dozens of in-district mobile truck billboards and airplane flyovers to alert constituents about the danger ahead--and ensure voters know that they have the power to stop this bad legislation from becoming law.

The protests, mobile billboards, and plane flyovers are part of a larger effort by MoveOn members to urge Congress to reject efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, including tens of thousands of constituent phone calls to Congressional offices and drop-bys at local offices.

Over the past three days, MoveOn commissioned planes and mobile billboards carrying a "Don't Take Away Our Health Care" message to fly over the offices of Rep. Rod Blum (R-IA), Rep. Martha McSally (R-AZ), Rep. David Valadao (R-CA), Rep. Steve Knight (R-CA), Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-PA), Rep. Dave Joyce (R-OH), Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA), Rep. Peter Roskam (IL), Rep. Mike Bost (IL), Rep. Rodney Davis (IL), Rep. Randy Hultgren (IL), Rep. Adam Kinzinger (IL), Rep. Claudia Tenny (NY), Rep. Daniel Webster (FL), Rep. David Reichert (WA), and Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (FL).

"The GOP TrumpCare plan is a disaster. It would take away health care from millions of people, cost thousands more for middle-class and low-income Americans, and strip protections from people with pre-existing conditions, all to give a massive tax break to insurance company CEOs and the wealthiest Americans," said Ben Wikler, MoveOn.org Washington Director. "The Upton amendment is a Band-Aid on a gunshot wound that does nothing to solve the problems that Trumpcare would create. By rushing this bill through Congress, Republicans are creating a manufactured crisis that will devastate millions of families."

In a MoveOn.org membership vote, more than 96% of votes cast were for MoveOn to run a massive, emergency, top-priority campaign to stop health care repeal and 'Trumpcare.'
