Drags C'mon: A River of Pride (and Improbable Drag Queens)
Kicking off the global WorldPride event, hundreds of thousands marched in New York's liberated streets Sunday to mark the 50th anniversary of Stonewall and a seminal moment in "a resistance whose time had come." For a supremely emblematic glimpse of the sea change that is gay rights, see the UK's TV show "Drag SOS," wherein footballer and stolid working bloke Shaun transforms into drag queen Poppy Love for his gay son in "a story of love, regret (and) being utterly fabulous."

Only the Best People
Today's small shard of justice was the spectacularly squalid spectacle of Paul Manafort's perp walk at his arraignment on Trump-proof state charges of fraud. The judge ruled the one-time campaign chair, ostrich-leather buff and longtime purveyor of guns, oligarchies and all-round skeeviness has to stay in prison - aptly, the same lockup as El Chapo - even if he gets a pardon for his federal crimes from the Grifter-In-Chief who, God willing, will soon follow him there.

With the Tired and Hungry and Scared, Then and Now
After Oscar Alberto Martínez and his daughter Angie and the rest - it turns out they were just two of dozens who've died in the Rio Grande this year thanks to state-sponsored barbarism - we took a truth and beauty break with Willie Nelson. At 86, the great troubadour just released a moving video with the song, "Immigrant Eyes," on his new album "Ride Me Back Home" to honor pilgrims from Ellis Island to today "b ound by the dream that they shared... on fire with the hope of it all."

Melania's Be Best Campaign Is Delightedly Expanding To Help Kids Everywhere Except, You Know, the Ones In the Concentration Camps
Proving she really doesn't friggin' care, the First Escort, mistress of cognitive dissonance, has proudly announced she's expanding her Be Best campaign to "better the lives of children everywhere," evidently unaware of thousands of brown children - exceptions may apply - currently traumatized, terrified, snot-and-lice-covered and sleeping on freezing concrete floors who may not be up to being their best just now. Twitter and the rest of the sentient world are here to remind her.

Every Day Is World Refugee Day
Last week's U.N. World Refugee Day sought to shine a light on the record 26 million poor, brown, defenseless souls this monstrous regime uses as political pawns. Still the crimes mount, the flood of human misery continues, and too many are incarcerated in "some suburb of hell." We offer a sliver of hope here in Portland, ME, where hundreds of asylum-seekers just arrived en masse and officials/ residents are scrambling to welcome them. Because - it's simple - our common humanity demands it.

To Keep A Light On: First Responder Luis Alvarez Enters Hospice Care
Luis Alvarez, the former NYC detective and 9/11 First Responder who with Jon Stewart testified to Congress the day before his 69th round of chemo, has gone into hospice care for the liver cancer he got working to protect the GOP scumbags now stalling to give health care to him and thousands more. "Still here, still fighting," he wrote, vowing to fight for the " benefits we all justly deserve" until " the Good Lord decides it’s time." Man. To the Good Lord: Please take Mitch McConnell instead.

Coates On Slavery: It Was 150 Years Ago and It Was Right Now
Arguing "a nation is both its credits and its debts - if Thomas Jefferson matters, so does Sally Hemings," writer Ta-Nehisi Coates offered searing testimony at the House hearing on possible reparations to black Americans long and still confronted by state-sanctioned violence for simply trying to be equal citizens of this country. Until we reckon with a past that's of a racist piece - slavery, Jim Crow, incarceration, poverty, violence - he says, "America will never be whole."

We Have To Do Better: Winning With Love and A Stellar Non-Endorsement
The ghastly MAGA guy just kicked off his re-election push in Orlando with lies, Nazis, old white people, more lies and chants of "Lock Her Up!" because OMG these folks are some stupid. Happily, he was met with a Win With Love protest flying his "gaseous orange twin," dismal polling - all six Democratic frontrunners beat him - his own undocumented workers calling him out, and a blistering editorial from the long-GOP Orlando Sentinel urging America to please vote for anyone but Trump, because duh.

Crying Children In Cages: This Is Not Somewhere Else
Over 3,000 poor, brown children remain penned in cages, sleeping under 68-cent blankets in freezing cells thanks to Trump's "purposefully cruel" family separations. As protesters from Florida to Geneva call for an end to the barbarity, rights advocates in New York just put up two dozen guerrilla art installations featuring a cage, a foil-wrapped "child," and audio of real kids sobbing to bring the torment home. "This is happening now," says RAICES. "Walking by is no longer an option."

Kingston Isn't Sure About the Finale of "Empire"
Happy Father's Day to DJ Pryor and his 19-month-old son, Kingston, who just broke the Internet with a home video of the two happily, thoughtfully chatting about the season finale of "Empire." Pryor, a Tennessee comedian, was ambivalent about it. Kingston was...umm...possibly, babblingly in agreement, but it's hard to tell 'cause he can't talk yet. Pure sweet joy. Kudos to Pryor and all the other dads simply present and listening, even if they have no clue what their kids are saying.
