So Close Yet So Far: And I Will Strike Down Upon Thee With Great Vengeance and Furious Anger
It musta been the latest deranged racism of Trump's claim he cruelly refused to let Dorian's destitute survivors into the U.S. because some Bahamians were - OMFG - gang members, drug dealers and " very bad people." Thus did it come to pass that, arriving soon after in North Carolina for another Nazi rally, God smote him down, or at least tried to, by hurling a lightning bolt at Air Force One. The people rejoiced. Then they lamented: Alas, She missed. Better aim, please.

Setting the Record Straight On Hurricanes, Grifters, Mensches
Remarkably - "it was the worst of times" - #Sharpiegate persists. An NOAA Trumpster said yup sure Alabama, the rest of NOAA and the world said WTF, the grifter's campaign started selling markers "to set the record straight," the free press said Trump is a loser buffoon, his thugs made a North-Korea-flavored video to say no way, and oh yeah 70,000 hurricane victims need life-saving help. Chef and humanitarian José Andrés is there feeding them. Note: Be like Andrés, not Donnie.

Steve King Is Drinking From Toilets (Sort Of) to Own the Libs and We Feel Bad For the Toilet
Another day, another racist clown. Seeking to rebut AOC with a big "Oh yeah?" for slamming conditions at Trump's concentration camps so barbaric migrant women had to drink water from toilets, Iowa's Steve 'What's Wrong With Being A Nazi' King got into a camp so he could film himself drinking water from said toilets and declare "Not bad!" Except he used the attached fountain, not the bowl. Regardless, maybe he got a nice touch of Hep C for his moronic trouble.

Village Idiot Offers Congrats To Poland For Nazi Invasion That Decimated Their Country and Killed Millions
Oh sweet God make it stop. After Trump declined to join a 40-nation ceremony in Poland marking the 80th anniversary of the Nazi invasion that launched the bloodiest war in history - he stayed home to "monitor" the hurricane, aka play golf - he sent a solemn, decorous message to the Polish people: "Congratulations!" He also praised them as "a great country with great people," a quarter of whom died in the aforementioned conflagration. Next up: Congrats to Japan for Hiroshima!

Which Side Are You On: Still Blocking the Coal Train In Harlan County
This Labor Day marked over a month since coal miners began blockading the railroad tracks in Kentucky's infamous Harlan County, setting up camp with the maxim "No Pay, We Stay," to protest being cheated by their now-bankrupt company. Though some claim their action has "nothing to do with politics," others acknowledge they're also fighting the complicity of larger political and economic powers. "There is total injustice here," says one miner. "We are taking a stand."

This Is Fucked Up
Hey look! More gun carnage in America. Texas, again. The victims included a 17-month-old shot in the face, with shrapnel in her chest. Our sick Conspirator-In-Chief babbled about an old TV grudge before dutifully noting the "sad situation! " Beto O'Rourke, God love him, cut to the sordid chase. At that point, he said, we didn't know how many victims, the survivors' condition, the shooter's motivation, the guns used. "But we do know that this is fucked up.”

Gaza: We Simply Want To Live
Delving behind the bleak headlines to portray "a people plagued by conflict, but not defined by it," two Irish filmmakers have released "Gaza," a documentary that offers "a tender portrait of beleaguered humanity." The film focuses on several ordinary Gazans - a teacher, barber, student, cab driver - who share their dreams, fears and efforts to shape something akin to normal lives in a relentlessly unlivable place where "the siege is the villain of our story."

Indelible In the Hippocampus: Epstein's Accusers Speak Out
Denied true justice by his death, over 20 women had their day in court where they described being coerced, traumatized and raped as young girls by Jeffrey Epstein. Each recounted their guilt and shame, his theft of their innocence, trust, joy, the damage and pain they bear, his suicide that robbed them of closure: "For that, he is a coward." Still, they said, they are not victims but survivors who literally survived him, and can now speak of it. Said one, "Today is a day of power and strength."

Forked-Tongue Kavanaugh Fan-Girl Susan Collins Is Having a Sads. Ask Us If We Care.
Poor Susan Collins. Maine's fake "moderate" and two-faced rape apologist says she is "sad" she's lost support for her vile decision to ignore constituents' fierce pleas and confirm drunk, liar, hack and sexual assaulter Brett Kavanaugh, thus threatening reproductive rights for millions of women - an act she calls a vote of "integrity and independence." She also whines, "I get tired of the 'she speaks but doesn't act,'" like, wait, I have to be accountable? Hell yes: We are done with you.

Good Job, Little Man
To the determinedly despondent: Sappiness Alert. Before plunging into the grim cauldron of this week's ravaging of democracy, decency and our precious, fragile, singular planet, here's a picture of a small sweet moment of kindness. On a first day of school in Wichita, KS., Kid #1 reached out to Kid #2 who was stressed, crying, and as it turns out, autistic, to help him through. Grateful Kid #2: "He found me and held my hand and I got happy tears." See? It's not that hard.
