350.org Responds To State Of The Union: "Trump Has Declared War On Our Climate. We Won't Let Him Win."

The following is a statement from 350.org's Executive Director May Boeve on the State of the Union:

WASHINGTON

The following is a statement from 350.org's Executive Director May Boeve on the State of the Union:

"Trump has declared war on our climate. We won't let him win. There was never a war on energy, just a historic fight to keep fossil fuels in the ground. His actions in the past year, from pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement to handing over the federal government to oil companies like Exxon, have only worsened the threat of climate disaster for Americans and communities worldwide.

"At a time when we need to be creating millions of good jobs in clean energy, Trump is doubling down on fossil fuels. Instead of building climate-resilient infrastructure, Trump is stripping away environmental reviews to build pipelines. Instead of building sea walls, Trump wants to waste billions on a border wall with Mexico.

"We can't expect anything from Washington as long as Trump and his cronies are in charge. Hope lies in the communities hard at work to secure the fossil free world we deserve. In the last year alone, we've seen indigenous communities, backed by farmers and ranchers, voice strong opposition to climate-wrecking pipeline projects like Keystone XL and Dakota Access. And hundreds of Mayors and Governors have committed to the Paris Climate Agreement.

"That's just the beginning. That's why we're joining with dozens of climate activists in Washington D.C. tomorrow to lay out our plans to stop all new fossil fuel projects and drive forward 100% renewable energy. The power to stop Trump's war on the climate lies with our communities and begins from the ground up."

350 is building a future that's just, prosperous, equitable and safe from the effects of the climate crisis. We're an international movement of ordinary people working to end the age of fossil fuels and build a world of community-led renewable energy for all.
