Protests Nationwide Oppose $33 Billion to Escalate Afghan War
In 109 congressional districts all over the country, people will be protesting on Wednesday at their local congress members' offices, urging them to commit to voting against $33.5 billion for escalating the war in Afghanistan, and to do so even if lots of other items are included in the bill. Currently an additional $30 billion is included to cover foreign aid, compensation for discrimination claims, and disaster relief.

Citizens in 18 States Push for State-Level Single-Payer Healthcare
In Wayne, Pennsylvania, on April 10, 2010, in conjunction with a regional conference of the Progressive Democrats of America, citizen representatives of fourteen states gathered and decided to begin a more coordinated collaboration aimed at passage of state-based, single-payer healthcare legislation. Groups in four additional states are also involved. On April 23rd the Vermont House followed that state's Senate in passing single-payer legislation. Bills are moving forward in several other states.

Kucinich Asks Colleagues to Vote No on Funding Escalation
In an audio podcast recorded by Progressive Democrats of America, Congressman Dennis Kucinich commits to voting No on the upcoming war supplemental spending bill, which would fund a 30,000 troop escalation of the war in Afghanistan with $33 billion. Kucinich urges his colleagues to vote no. He stressed that this needs to be a firm commitment to vote no, regardless of what useful measures are packaged into the bill to make it more attractive. ($2.8 billion in aid to Haiti is expected.)
