Dear Common Dreamer,
We received the message below from Markus in Pennsylvania earlier this morning. He said it was OK to share it with you. Please take his words to heart.
We hope that you will stand with us in the coming weeks and months. Together, we can get through the Trump era.

Subject: What I did on the second morning of the Trump era
Dear Fellow Americans,
I live in a rural region of Pennsylvania which voted very strongly for Donald Trump. These are my neighbors, these are my friends. They are angry because they feel betrayed by ALL the political elites in this country, and by all the "others" that must be responsible for the fact that the American Dream seems to be slipping away from them. So they backed a man that promises to "clean out the rot" in Washington. Hopeful, they will now experience what the man that has stoked their anger has in store for them. My friends and neighbors are NOT the enemy. It is high time that the political elites on the left and the right pay some attention to them. It is even more important that we, progressive Americans, pay attention to them. Look at the map of the red states in this country's center. This is the lion that roared on November 8th, 2016.
Waking up on this the second morning of the Trump era, the latest Common Dreams newsletter awaited me. In it I found a sense of shared commitment to continue fighting for the values expressed in this great country's Declaration of Independence and in its Constitution. And in it I found the sustenance to take heart and continue to fight for those values.
Wanting to do something concrete to demonstrate that I want a different America than does Trump and the puerile politicians and alt-right extremists that he surrounds himself with, I signed up to make a sustaining $10 a month contribution to Common Dreams.
A free, unfettered, and courageous press is essential to the protection of American freedom. I'm stepping up to support what Common Dreams does. Everyone else that reads Common Dreams should too.
