With a Return to Fracking, Gov. Gavin Newsom Shows His True Oily Colors

"We had hoped for better from Newsom, but now we know exactly what we’re dealing with."

Los Angeles

Reports indicate that after a nine-month moratorium on new fracking permits being issued in California, state regulators began approving new fracking operations on Friday. In response, Food & Water Action California Director Alexandra Nagy issued the following statement:

"By allowing a sudden return to fracking in the state, Governor Newsom has shown his true oily colors. Despite his pledges to ban fracking and bring California into a clean energy future, Newsom has quietly fallen into line with the corporate fossil fuel interests that have been polluting this state's air and water for decades. Newsom's actions show disregard for the deepening health and climate crisis facing all Californians. We had hoped for better from Newsom, but now we know exactly what we're dealing with. We're putting the governor on notice: We will be fighting his pro-polluter agenda vigorously at every turn."

Food & Water Watch mobilizes regular people to build political power to move bold and uncompromised solutions to the most pressing food, water, and climate problems of our time.
