New DC Billboard Slams Sen. McConnell's 'Total Coordination' With Trump, Calls on GOP to Demand Witnesses

MoveOn commissions billboard calling out McConnell for working to appease Trump while asking GOP senators for witnesses and a fair trial.

WASHINGTON

On Monday, January 27, a mobile billboard calling out Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell and Republican senators will be visible on the west side of the U.S. Capitol on 3rd Street NW. The billboard slams the Senate majority leader for his "total coordination" with President Donald Trump throughout the entire Senate impeachment trial. It also calls on Senators Collins, Murkowski, Romney, Alexander, McSally, Gardner, Tillis, Ernst and Sasse to listen to voters in their home states and defend the Constitution, specifically by calling for witnesses in a full, fair impeachment trial.

The billboard was commissioned by progressive political advocacy organization MoveOn and paid for by donations from thousands of MoveOn members from across the country, including home states of key Republican senators.

WHEN: Monday, January 27th and Tuesday, January 28th, 2020 from 11:30am to 7:30pm

"Mitch McConnell is a threat to our American political system," said Rahna Epting, executive director of MoveOn, "Throughout the Senate impeachment trial, Senator McConnell and his Republican caucus have done everything in their power to ignore the will of their constituents. They are doing all they can to deny the American people the opportunity to get to the truth. They are refusing to hold a fair trial, refusing the Senate access to White House documents and refusing to hear from valuable witnesses. This is not the American way. Republicans are showing that they care more about their loyalty to Donald Trump than the interests of the American taxpayer and upholding our constitution. But there are a handful of Republicans who can still choose the Constitution over Trump, who have said they would consider witnesses. They need to know that voters all across the country want the full truth -- and history will remember if they stand up for the truth.

"This should not be a partisan issue. In any other previous moment in time, the revelations around John Bolton would have led to immediate action by the Senate to hear from him and demand the truth. We haven't heard all the evidence, and the Senate still has a chance to demand witnesses in this trial."

"We commissioned this billboard to let Republican elected officials know that we are well aware of these transgressions and abuses of power being made in the Senate and the White House."
