20,000 to Netflix: Boycott Georgia until the Dangerous Abortion Ban is Vetoed or Repealed

UltraViolet Asks Netflix to Speak Up for Georgia Women

GEORGIA

A new campaign from UltraViolet, a leading national women's advocacy organization, is calling on Netflix to stop filming in Georgia until the state's dangerous abortion ban, HB 481, is vetoed or repealed. The petition has been signed by almost 20,000 people in just the last twenty-four hours.

UltraViolet warns that the bill, which would ban abortion after six weeks of pregnancy, before many people even know they're pregnant, is immoral and focused entirely on controlling women's bodies. If implemented, it would put millions of women's lives and livelihoods at risk.
Shaunna Thomas, co-founder and executive director of UltraViolet, explained:
"Women's health care decisions should be made between them and their doctor, not politicians who are hellbent on enforcing their extreme ideological agendas on us. Georgia has the highest rate of maternal deaths in the country. More women will die if this bill is enacted. If Governor Kemp signs this inhumane ban into law, any company that does business in Georgia will be complicit in supporting a radical anti-woman agenda designed to restrict a woman's access to constitutionally-protected health care.
"Netflix brings millions of dollars to Georgia each year by filming in the state, and the streaming giant needs to use its power in the state to speak out for Georgia women, and the hundreds of women who work on Netflix productions, who will be impacted by this cruel and immoral abortion ban. Netflix has a history of speaking up against bad laws passed where they film - in fact Netflix continues to boycott North Carolina over its anti-trans bathroom bill - and now they need to do the same in Georgia.

Earlier this month, more than 50 celebrities - including Uzo Aduba, Ben Stiller, Amy Schumer, Don Cheadle, Laverne Cox, and Amber Tamblyn - signed on to a letter pledging not to work in Georgia if the bill is signed into law. Many of these actors and actresses currently work with, or have shows that air on Netflix's streaming platform.
