With A Green New Deal, a New Chapter in Climate Activism is Emerging, and a Legislative Climate Solution Already Exists

Statement of Scott Edwards, Co-Director, Climate & Energy Program, Food & Water Watch

WASHINGTON

"We are pleased to see a new chapter in climate activism, with Congress Members-elect joining concerned Americans to demand what is urgently needed - a Green New Deal. In January, Congressional leadership must listen to these voices and move proposals like the Off Fossil Fuels Act, an existing bill that lays out a clear path, guided by the latest science, to move the country completely and aggressively to 100 percent renewable energy by 2035 - with the bulk of that transition mandated in the next decade. We worked closely with environmental justice allies and others in getting the OFF Act introduced more than a year ago. Today it is co-sponsored by 46 House members, and it encapsulates the immediate solution to our climate crisis so desperately needed."

Food & Water Watch mobilizes regular people to build political power to move bold and uncompromised solutions to the most pressing food, water, and climate problems of our time. We work to protect people's health, communities, and democracy from the growing destructive power of the most powerful economic interests.
