Thousands of Concerned Americans Tell Members of Congress: “Let’s Make a Date: Host a Town Hall”
#ResistTrumpTuesdays Protests Demand Senators and Representatives Set Public Meetings on Trump Agenda
NATIONWIDE - This Valentine’s Day, people across the country will visit district offices of their Senators and US Representatives to say “Let’s Make a Date” for townhalls during next week’s Congressional recess. The events will be attended by members of the Working Families Party, Moveon.org, People’s Action and the Center for Popular Democracy. For a full list, click here: http://www.moveon.org/feb14
“Over the past month, Americans have taken to the streets in record numbers to speak out against Trump’s agenda,” said Nelini Stamp, Working Families Party’s membership director. “As we approach the first congressional recess, we’re demanding that elected officials hear from people about Trump’s dangerous agenda. Members of Congress owe their constituents the honest truth: which side are you on?”
In the last week we've seen Trump call for reversing regulations on financial firms, rush forward misguided pipelines, ramp up raids against immigrants and push through more dangerous Cabinet picks. Concerned people across the country deserve the chance to meet publicly with our representatives to share their concerns.
The #ResistTrumpTuesdays campaign was launched by the Working Families Party in the weeks leading up to Trump's inauguration to mobilize weekly protests to oppose Trump and his agenda. Since the start of the year, tens of thousands of people have participated in 350 weekday #ResistTrumpTuesdays protests at congressional offices. The #ResistTrumpTuesdays protests are “quickly becoming a staple of this charged moment,” according to CNN.
Organizers say the weekly protests will last at least the first 100 days.
On Sunday evening, 42,000 people participated in an organizing call for this week’s actions, planned by Working Families Party, Moveon.org, People’s Action and the Center for Popular Democracy to plan this week’s actions. The call featured leading activists giving updates on Trump’s ramped-up immigration raids, coaching on how to stiffen the spines of Democratic office-holders, lessons on how to bird-dog and more.
