National People's Action Campaign Says Senator Sanders' Candidacy Will Shift the Debate, Force Hillary Clinton to Take Sides on Key Issues
WASHINGTON - As Vermont's independent Senator Bernie Sanders announced that he will run for President today as a Democrat, Ryan Greenwood, Director of Movement Politics for National People's Action Campaign, issued the following statement:
"Senator Sanders has dedicated his career to the proposition that we, the people, should control our economy so that it works for everyone, not just big corporations and the wealthy. His candidacy will shift the Presidential debate towards meaningful measures to address growing economic and racial inequality, a democracy under attack, and a planet in peril. By running on a bold populist agenda, Senator Sanders will not only help force candidates like Hillary Clinton to take sides, he will also create space for candidates running for office at every level to put people and the planet before corporate profits."
FRIENDS: Help Us Fight
Independent journalism has become the last firewall against government and corporate lies. Yet, with frightening regularity, independent media sources are losing funding, closing down or being blacked out by Google and Facebook. Never before has independent media been more endangered. If you believe in Common Dreams, if you believe in people-powered independent media, please support us now and help us fight—with truths—against the lies that would smother our democracy. Please help keep Common Dreams alive and growing. Thank you. -- Craig Brown, Co-founder
