WASHINGTON

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported 244,000 new jobs in April, and that the public sector continued to lose employment, down 24,000 jobs this month. Campaign for America's Future co-director Robert Borosage made the following statement about the jobs numbers:

"This is good news. But we need to keep our eye on the ball and not let the modest growth in private sector employment lull policymakers into thinking that we are fully out of this deep hole. The public sector lost jobs this month, and with impending state budget cuts, now is not the time for the government to be sending out pink slips.

"It's time that working Americans use our strength in numbers to reclaim the American dream."

News reports included that 62,000 of the new jobs came from one employer: McDonalds.

The Campaign is leading the fight for America's priorities - for good jobs and a sustainable economy, and for strengthening the safety net.
