On Thursday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said 27 Haitian nationals with criminal records in the United States have been deported to Haiti. Human rights groups have criticized the move amidst a cholera outbreak, election-related violence and the ongoing devastation from the earthquake. Earlier this month, a group of U.S.-based human rights groups and legal organizations filed an emergency petition with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to halt the roundups, detention and deportations of Haitian nationals by the U.S. government.
