Halloween wasn't quite the same, of course, given....everything. Still, there were reasons for good cheer. We saw a smattering of sweet brave costumed kids out along with two guys running as Superman and Batman, and neighbors made ingenious no-contact candy chutes, and the Salem, Mass.-based #WitchTheVote cast spells to defeat The Dark One and support progressive candidates. Many others posted reminders of the likeness between pumpkins and our current nightmare: Both orange on the outside, hollow on the inside, need to be thrown out in November. Most gloriously, Berlin's Madame Tussauds wax museum took a welcome proactive move with the burn of the week: They staged a photo-op of dumping their Trump in the garbage as a “preparatory measure” for a hopefully brighter future. The guy now doing more to stop us from voting than to stop us from dying was joinedin the dumpster by bags of trash, a MAGA hat, signs - "You're Fired," "Fake News" - and a notice proclaiming, "Dump Trump - Make America Great Again." Explained Orkide Yalcindag, the museum's marketing manager, “Today’s activity is rather of a symbolic character ahead of the elections." Cherry on top of the burn: Overlooking the dumpster, a smiling Obama stayed put.
