Tuesday marks the late great Bob Marley's birthday; he would have been (only) 73, a mournful reminder of just how young he was when he died - 36 - and just how long he's been gone. A ghetto-dweller born wailing, with a savvy, wary view of "politricks" and "the shitstem," what sweet solace he might have tendered - "Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery/ None but ourselves can free our minds" - in these dark days. Still, his music and legacy live on. If you haven't, see the great documentary about him, and "Come we go chant down Babylon one more time."
On this day in 1945, legendary reggae artiste Bob Marley was born. His legacy and messages of peace and unity still live on. R.I.P. pic.twitter.com/VrRlTvWwte
