On April, Maxine, Melania and Susan B. Anthony, Who - Note to Our Clueless Loser - Yeah We've Heard Of

Admittedly a tough call, but the Most Gag-Inducing Moment of a by-now-familiarly ignoble week has gotta be the sordid spectacle of the Pussy-Grabber-In Chief smugly blathering on about his respect for women's achievements as his uber-groomed deputy enabler-in-chief painstakingly read out fake words on a teleprompter about gender empowerment - "Wherever women are diminished, the entire world is diminished with them" - and "respect for people from all backgrounds" while keeping a straight face. The mind-boggling appearance of the two grifters at Wednesday events marking the end of Women's History Month featured a number of bizarro treasures.

There was Trump mansplaining to an audience of suited, coiffed and politely applauding women at a “Women’s Empowerment Panel” who Susan B. Anthony was - joke? hard to tell at this point - and saying how bigly he respects women; Near the end of his monologue, Stephen Colbert expressed his admiration for Trump's sincere conversion to feminism. There was also Melania giving out Women of Courage Awards to 12 women from around the world, including three Trump-banned countries, for opposing the kind of sexual and gender-based abuses long perpetrated by her husband - and for which he currently faces yet another lawsuit. In that case, his lawyers have imaginatively argued the "singular importance of the President's duties" warrants a stay; further legal action, they say, "could district a President from his public duties." America's response: oh please please please.

While social media was blasting the hypocrisy and incompetence on display - sample observations on Trump's knowledge of women's history: "The bar's gotten so low we need a front end loader to get to it" and "Word has it Trump will ask Susan B. Anthony to join Frederick Douglass in his administration" - a couple of his white guy cohorts were across town doing their share of contributing to gender equity. We had Sean Spicer scolding veteran White House Correspondent April Ryan, who is black, for persisting in a question about Trump's ties to Russia - "Stop shaking your head!" he berated her - even as Fox News host Bill O'Reilly mocked firebrand California Congresswoman Maxine Waters for a "James Brown wig" that so distracted his wee little brain he couldn't listen to her criticisms of his dearly beloved leader.

Even as the horrified shrieks of observers lingered, Black Lives Matter activist Britanny Packnett took to Twitter urging followers to "share your Maxine and April moments" under the hashtag #BlackWomenAtWork." Hundreds did, raging about the times they'd been told not to be too loud (scary) or too quiet (unengaged) or too assertive (angry) or not to do their hair too "black" or not to react when men can't believe she - a girl! - is the oncologist/coder/prosecutor. The bright spot here: Galvanized women continue to call out the nonsense, and act. Since the election, between 4,000 and 13,000 women, depending on who you ask, have said they're considering running for office; queries and donations have flooded women's political advocacy groups like She Should Run, Emerge America, and Emily's List, which urges women to run for "the opportunity to be heard and make a difference." Meanwhile, those already there are persisting. "I am a strong black woman," retorted Maxine Waters to the O'Reilly idiocy. "I cannot be intimidated, and I'm not going anywhere."
