Satan 1, Jesus 0

Woe be to the hapless, godless children of Florida's Orange County, one of the country's largest school districts, who will attend school Friday without the blessed guidance of Bibles after school officials cancelled a planned Religious Freedom Day rather than having to include Satanists, atheists and other sketchy types insisting their voices likewise be heard in the pesky name of equal treatment. Admitting that "things, frankly, got out of hand," beleaguered school officials chose to  "postpone" the event while they work on revising their policies.

The mess began when the possible trolls of the Satanic Temple and atheists of the Freedom From Religion Foundation raised legal objections to an annual Bible handout by the evangelical World Changers. Both groups insisted their own materials would have to be included. For the Satanists, that meant a Satanic Children's Big Book of Activities that teaches kids about controversial concepts like "freedom," "justice" and "respect." The atheists offered anti-religious materials that included a pamphlet titled, “An X-Rated Book: Sex and Obscenity in the Bible,” which shows a Bible sexually assaulting a woman trying to escape - all in all, they argue, "tame" compared to what's in the Bible.

When school officials announced the cancellation, outraged Christians quickly charged schools had "banned Bibles" and given the heathens "what they wanted...to get rid of religion (and make) the public school experience a completely secular  experience, meaning God is not mentioned, God is not recognized and God is not incorporated in any way." The Bible, they argued, "will open somebody's heart, somebody's mind, and cause them to pursue answers."

In fact, nobody has banned anything or prevented anyone from seeking answers anywhere - except on public school grounds constitutionally declared separate from the church. Evangelicals, it's been suggested, should consult their sources. Galatians 6: 7-8:  "Do not be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap."
