Crowdfunding has reached new, bizarre, possibly inevitable levels with Ukraine nationalists now raising money from online supporters - and then negotiating with arms dealers - to fund the country's "first people's infantry battalion," starting with a "People's Drone" to patrol the Russian border and including bulletproof vests, painkillers, a sniper unit and anything else "the boys needed." Volunteers run the site, which has raised 71% of its goal to arm the sniper unit and over its goal for the drone. Organizers originally hoped to buy a state-of-the-art Israeli drone for $165,000 or a cheaper American one for $120,000, but settled for a home-grown $35,000 model. We're not sure if this is good or bad news.
