On a day that needs some good news, meet Dr. Jim Withers, a soft-spoken internal medicine physician known as The Street Doctor after 20 years of treating Pittsburgh's homeless where they live. Profiled in a new video from Nationswell, Withers began partnering in 1992 with a former homeless guy turned-outreach-worker who let him tag along if he didn't dress like a doctor or act like a jerk. Today, they both work with a team of clinicians and volunteers as Operation Safety Net, one of the country's first street medicine programs. What he's learned from treating over 1,200 people: "There are as many paths to the street as there are people out there," and "everybody matters."

Astonishingly, infuriatingly, two former Fullerton, California cops have been acquitted on all charges after savagely beating to death Kelly Thomas, 37, a homeless man suffering from schizophrenia. The attack, caught on surveillance video, led to days of protests, the recall of three City Council members and the resignation of a police chief whose department has a long history of violent abuse. Thomas' family will likely pursue civil charges, the FBI is investigating and many who feel there's way too much of this going around found the verdict unfrigginbelievable. Raw and edited video.
