Man up, America. The winner of the 2014 Miss America Pageant is Nina Davuluri, a New York native, Merit Award and Honor Society student in brain behavior and cognitive science who wants to be a doctor - and oh yeah, is Indian-American. Cue the idiot racist comments: "Miss Al Qaeda," "Miss 7/11," "Miss Terrorist," "Thanks alot Obama," "9/11 was 4 days ago and she gets miss america?" and, our personal favorite, "With all do respect this is America." With all due respect, Indian is not Arab, Muslim, Indian-American or relevant, and American is everyone. And let's not even get into the double-whammy-weirdness of objectifying nationalities during a contest that already objectifies women. Still, the avalanche of online venom, ignorance and stupidity - albeit countered by sensible outrage - was disheartening. Colbert has the right idea: He made the hate so ridiculous he even cracked himself up.
"705 people (who tweeted the phrase 'Miss America Terrorist') saw a woman in a bikini and thought, 'Muslim Extremist.'"
