Wisconsin Capitol Police Chief Gets Huge, Borderline Illegal Raise For Arresting All Those Pesky Singers

Abby Zimet

How much sleazier can the empire of Scott Walker get? This much: His administration just rewarded the new hardline Capitol Police chief and his top deputy with double-digit, salary-limit skirting pay raises by moving them on paper to phantom jobs for a day before returning them to their real jobs of bravely arresting firefighters, journalists, grandmothers, kids, and at least one city council member for, umm, singing. Chief Dave Erwin got a pay hike of  11.7% to $111,067 a year. Rank-and-file state workers got a 1% pay raise in July, the first in four years. Now even Wisconsin cops are speaking out against a police force they say is more beholden to the emperor than the Constitution. Updates and photos of the ongoing circus.
