Exhibiting about the same amount of faith in their elected representatives as Americans have, two Mexican students have put forward a cat candidate in upcoming elections for mayor of Xalapa who is currently more popular than all four (doubtless corrupt) biped candidates. El Candigato Morris has a Facebook page, a proposed Cabinet, a series of satirical posters, a video wherein he disses the other candidates, a slogan - rid the city of rats - and a set of campaign promises - sleep, eat, play in the dirt, do no harm - which to Americans, if you take Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren out of the equation, sounds pretty good.

THE LAST FIREWALL AGAINST THE LIES

Independent media has become the last firewall against government and corporate lies.   Yet, with frightening regularity, independent media sources are losing funding, closing down or being blacked out by Google and Facebook.  Never before has independent media been more endangered.  If you believe in Common Dreams, if you believe in people-powered independent media, please support our critical Winter campaign now and help us fight—with truths—against the lies that would smother our democracy. Please help keep Common Dreams alive and growing.
