The most ambitious survey ever on the causes of climate change - covering 11,994 peer-reviewed academic papers by 29,000 scientists over 20 years - has found that 97.1% agree climate change is caused by human activity, with dissenters representing a "vanishingly small proportion." Yet there is a "gaping chasm" between the scientific consensus and public perception with just 42% of Americans seeing that connection, largely due to industry lobbying.
"There has been a systematic attempt to create the impression that scientists did not have a consensus, as part of a broader strategy to prevent federal government action. The public have been confused because people have been trying to confuse us."
