The group traces Monsanto's toxic history - saccharin to Agent Orange to herbicides - its bloated numbers - 282 million acres, $11.8 billion in net sales, $62,356,730 on lobbying - and its brazen ties to lawmakers, regulators and researchers who miraculously favor it at every turn.

This is a real story: ExxonMobil has been awarded the Green Cross for Safety award for "excellence in safety, security, health and environmental performance" from the so-called National Safety Council, whose board is made up of executives from Exxon and other stellar corporate citizens like Dow Chemical, Exelon Nuclear, and DuPont. Irony lives, as does over-arching corporate power and unfathomable shamelessness.

Guns Before Butter
Taking a bold if senseless stand against crime, fraud and bad (poor) guys, North Carolina legislators want to mandate background checks for applicants for welfare or food stamps, even though they oppose such checks for - yes - buying guns. Because which Constitutional right is more vital: the right to own and (possibly tragically) use firearms you likely have no real justification for owning and/or using - or food?
