Not to Worry, Rape Victims Who Want An Abortion: We Won't Charge You With Felony Tampering With Evidence, Just Your Doctor
Oops: After much uproar, New Mexico wingnut lady Rep. Cathrynn Brown is walking back as fast as she can from her insane proposed bill to charge rape or incest survivors with a "tampering with evidence" felony if they choose to abort their fetus. Now Brown says it was "an error" to suggest the bill would prosecute victims of rape; she just wants to punish - up to three years prison time - those who would help them. "Tampering with evidence shall include procuring or facilitating an abortion, or compelling another to obtain an abortion, of a fetus that is the result of criminal sexual penetration or incest with the intent to destroy evidence of the crime."

With the appalling news that the State Department is reassigning Guantánamo s pecial envoy Daniel Fried and closing his office, critics are blasting what Glenn Greenwald calls the "vintage Obama symbolic gesture" - while retaining a core injustice - that was the supposed promise to close Gitmo. He Shot First: Yet More Senseless Shootings of Kids
Amidst ongoing Senate hearings on gun violence, more horrific stories. Rodrigo Diaz, 22, was shot and killed when, en route to ice skating with friends, he committed the crime of mistakenly pulling into the driveway of an armed 69-year-old Vietnam veteran and Christian missionary. Officials called the shooting "not a question of race (but) a tragic event dictated by fear” - and guns. A 15-year-old girl was also randomly shot and killed a week after performing at Obama's inauguration. Today Gabby Giffords powerfully testified, "Too many children are dying." Yes. Surreal Update : Shortly after Giffords testified, several people shot at a Phoenix office complex. Surreal Etc : And another, at an Atlanta middle school.
