Hard to believe, but the stands of the Catholic Church and its ruling bishops seem to be getting ever wackier and further removed from reality.
To wit: Having organized 43 plaintiffs—including the archdioceses of New York, Washington and the University of Notre Dame—to file lawsuits against the Obama administration for violating their "first, most cherished liberty" of religious freedom with health care reform's contraceptive mandate, they have declared their intention to fight further with an upcoming "Fortnight of Freedom," a period of prayer, action and civil disobedience they liken to the civil rights movement and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s quoting of Saint Augustine that, ‘An unjust law is no law at all’ - this, despite the fact that the law has been found constitutional several times over and poll after poll says a majority of Americans, and Catholics, agree with it.
They are doing this even as: They harass thousands of nuns who disagree with them, and are fighting back; they investigate the Girl Scouts for alleged ties to Planned Parenthood and "problematic program materials;" and they pay out bonuses of up to $20,000 to sexually abusive priests as an incentive for them to leave the priesthood without a fight - a charge that New York's Cardinal Timothy Dolan, former archbishop of Milwaukee and rabid foe of same-sex marriage as “unjust” and “immoral,” first denied as "groundless and scurrilous," and then, when documentation surfaced, called "an act of charity." And, as Cardinal, he even gets a throne.
