Anti-abortion activists, meet your match. The Virginia legislature is about to pass a law mandating that pregnant women considering abortion first get an ultrasound - not because there's any medical reason to do so, but because right-wingers, in their unthinking cruelty, want women to suffer even more by being confronted with an image of what they're, usually heartbreakingly, about to do away with. Enter state senator Janet Howell, who in response proposed an amendment requiring men seeking erectile dysfunction drugs to get a stress test and a rectal exam - the rectum being near enough to the prostate being near enough to the penis to offer more scientific justification than the ultrasound requirement. The best part: It lost but only by two votes, 21-19, with 13 men voting for it.
