Metaphor Alert: A report out of Chicago explores the intimate connections - trading money and favors for mutal gain - of violent street gangs and supposedly non-violent politicians. The (dismaying) trick: substitute corporate lobbyists for gangs, and you have American politics in action.

"In the end, as with most things political in Chicago, it all came down to one question...The gang representatives asked, 'What can you give me?' The politicians, most eager to please, replied, 'What do you want?'”
