To Vote In Wisconsin, You Need the Magic Words

Madison's Capital Times has found what critics of Wisconsin's new voter photo i.d. law are citing "the smoking gun" that proves the bill's intent is to disenfranchise poor voters: an internal Department of Transportation memo telling DMV workers not to tell residents they can get free i.d. cards - unless they know to check a box asking for it. Officials say they are not being coy, which seems kinda coy.

"While you should certainly help customers who come in asking for a free ID to check the appropriate box, you should refrain from offering the free version to customers who do not ask for it." - Steve Krieser of the Dept. of Transportation
