Yum: Deep-Fried Butter, Wrapped In Straw Poll
Big doings in Iowa. No, not the upcoming GOP debate and straw poll, which can apparently be bought by the highest bidder. Bigger news is the tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Iowa State Fair's life-size butter cow: fried butter on a stick - an entire stick of butter dipped in honey batter, then deep-fried and sugar-glazed to make sure you don't survive it. There must be an analogy here.

Turns out, when Ken Kesey and his Merry Band of Pranksters took off on an acid-fuelled odyssey across the country in their school bus "Further" - with the wholly illicit Neal Cassady driving - they filmed, haphazardly, the trip. Now there's a documentary of the journey starring Kesey, that "classic American psychedelic superhero," always with "something bedrock, Western, sawmill" about him. Alex Gibney on Kesey's art piece for a country enveloped in fear: "He was saying, ‘Come out of your bomb shelter...Don’t be trapped in a maze.’”
