Probably inevitably, the Pentagon is getting into the social media game, with its Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) offering $42 million for "innovative research proposals" to track Internet memes - ie: to know who's saying what on Facebook or Twitter. As evidenced by the Arab Spring, this could be useful; as evidenced by decades of official malfeasance, this could be abused in the blink of a covert propagandist's eye.
