In what he called "a gesture from the whole of Europe for you, Gaza," Israeli conductor and champion of Palestinian rights Daniel Barenboim crossed illegally into the Gaza Strip to perform an all-Mozart Peace Concert with an orchestra made up of musicians across Europe. The Argentinian-born Barenboim, who lives in Berlin and took honorary Palestinian citizenship in 2008, told his audience, "No people should be expected to live under occupation."

"I am a Palestinian," he said to thunderous applause. "I am also Israeli, so you see it is possible to be both."
