It's a telling sign of the slowly evolving times that there's been such uproar after L.A. Lakers star Kobe Bryant threw a tantrum and homophobic slur at a ref, for which he was fined a tidy $100,000. Among the lessons here: it's time he shows up at a gay parade or game; there's still rampant homophobia in sports; as always - and this comes powerfully home when you watch the video - words have power.

"There's a lot of things that are being said that should not be said." - a semi-contrite Bryant.
