The Merits of a Story

Six months after being pressured out for speaking truth, albeit
bluntly, to power when she said Jews should "get the hell out of
Palestine," legendary journalist Helen Thomas will be celebrated for
her "integrity, vision, boldness and unflagging determination" as a
trailblazer who "asked the tough questions and applied principles of
fairness." She will get the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination
Committee's Courage in Journalism Award and will also be keynote speaker
at a workshop about anti-Arab bias, both in Detroit, where she was born of Lebanese parents. Area Jews are not happy with this development. We wish her well.

"I hit the the third rail. You cannot criticize Israel in this country and survive." - Helen Thomas
