Feingold Channels Dylan: "My Heart Is Not Weary"

Abby Zimet

A sad fond farewell for now to Wisconsin's Sen. Russ Feingold, who in
a graceful concession speech quoted Dylan and urged, "On to the next
fight." The champion
of campaign finance reform fell victim to big money. A stalwart
opponent of the Iraq War, he was, memorably, the only Senator to vote
against the Patriot Act.

"There is no doubt that if we lived in a police state,
it would be easier to catch the terrorists....But that wouldn't be a
country in which we would want to live, and it wouldn't be a country
for which we could, in good conscience, ask our young people to fight
and die. In short, that country wouldn't be America."

FRIENDS: Help Us Fight

Independent journalism has become the last firewall against government and corporate lies. Yet, with frightening regularity, independent media sources are losing funding, closing down or being blacked out by Google and Facebook. Never before has independent media been more endangered. If you believe in Common Dreams, if you believe in people-powered independent media, please support us now and help us fight—with truths—against the lies that would smother our democracy. Please help keep Common Dreams alive and growing. Thank you. -- Craig Brown, Co-founder
