The Truth

Never mind the shameful official U.S. response to Wikileaks' Iraq War Logs and their empty nattering about "breaking the law." The Logs reveal a gut-churning scale of abuses, civilian deaths, war crimes and cover-ups that must see the light of day. We applaud Wikileaks for doing what the media should have done long ago. See the Guardian's extraordinarily thorough coverage here; more from AlJazeera here.

"This disclosure is about the truth. We hope to correct some of that attack on the truth that occurred before the war, during the war, and which has continued on since the war officially concluded." - Julian Assange

FRIENDS: Help Us Fight

Independent journalism has become the last firewall against government and corporate lies. Yet, with frightening regularity, independent media sources are losing funding, closing down or being blacked out by Google and Facebook. Never before has independent media been more endangered. If you believe in Common Dreams, if you believe in people-powered independent media, please support us now and help us fight—with truths—against the lies that would smother our democracy. Please help keep Common Dreams alive and growing. Thank you. -- Craig Brown, Co-founder
