A string of suicides by teens harassed, bullied and abused for being -
or being perceived as - gay has triggered a multi-pronged effort to
reach out to those young people and remind them there is life after the
torment of high school. Writer Dan Savage started the "It Gets Better Project" on YouTube, wherein LGBT adults tell kids of their often-awful teen years as gay or even in any way different. ACLU staffers have contributed videos to it, a broader "Make It Better Project" has taken off from that, and a number of state legislative efforts are underway to fight gay bullying.
