To You Good Muslims: We Know You're Not the Bad Muslims, But Please Pray On Another Day Anyway

Abby Zimet

We are ashamed of our local so-called newspaper, the Portland Press Herald,
whose editor ran a grovelling apology after committing the heinous crime of running a feel-good story
about 3,000 local Muslims praying to mark the end of Ramadan - children
even played soccer! - but not "offering balance" by noting it was 9/11,
the anniversary of a day when a few crazy Muslims did something really
bad. Then the so-called editor sort of retracted the apology or maybe he didn't, but anyway do let's kowtow to every wave of mindless hateful hysteria in the land, shall we?

This is the world we live in. This is the world we cover.

Because of people like you, another world is possible. There are many battles to be won, but we will battle them together—all of us. Common Dreams is not your normal news outlet. We don't survive on clicks. We don't want advertising dollars. We want the world to be a better place. But we can't do it alone. It doesn't work that way. We need you. If you can help today—because every gift of every size matters—please do. Without Your Support We Won't Exist.
