Activist Loses Eye

An American activist lost an eye and sustained head injuries after
being shot
in the face with a
tear gas canister while demonstrating in the West Bank against Israel's
attack on the Gaza aid flotilla. Israeli troops fired the canister at
close range at Emily Henochowicz, a 21-year-old art student in New York.

"They clearly saw us," said Sören Johanssen of the International
Solidarity Movement. "They clearly saw that we were internationals
and it really looked as though they were trying to hit us. They fired
many canisters at us in rapid succession."

This is the world we live in. This is the world we cover.

Because of people like you, another world is possible. There are many battles to be won, but we will battle them together—all of us. Common Dreams is not your normal news site. We don't survive on clicks. We don't want advertising dollars. We want the world to be a better place. But we can't do it alone. It doesn't work that way. We need you. If you can help today—because every gift of every size matters—please do.
