The D.C. voting rights went down to defeat thanks to NRA-drafted language to
loosen gun laws that Eleanor Holmes Norton, the District's non-voting
House member, called "so over the top (it is)
unworthy of serious consideration."
Just what the residents of D.C. need: more guns, including assault
weapons, on their beleaguered streets. Which is more appalling: that the
NRA would try to strike such a sleazy deal, or that they wield the
power to make it stick? Voting rights advocates will keep trying.
