Buy More Guns (Which Are Not For A Turkey Shoot)

You think the mushrooming Tea Party crazies are scary? Here's scary:
State legislatures forming alliances with them. To form militias. In
Oklahoma, which next week marks the anniversary of the Oklahoma City
bombing. Tea Party leaders and fellow conservatives who happen to have
gotten elected want to form a volunteer militia, arguing the Second
Amendment gives them the right to arm themselves against "an
overreaching federal government." The return of slavery is next.

"It's not a far-right crazy
plan or anything like that," said Tea Party leader J.W. Berry. "This
would be done with the
full cooperation of the state Legislature."

FRIENDS: Help Us Fight

Independent journalism has become the last firewall against government and corporate lies. Yet, with frightening regularity, independent media sources are losing funding, closing down or being blacked out by Google and Facebook. Never before has independent media been more endangered. If you believe in Common Dreams, if you believe in people-powered independent media, please support us now and help us fight—with truths—against the lies that would smother our democracy. Please help keep Common Dreams alive and growing. Thank you. -- Craig Brown, Co-founder
